The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is directed by David Blue Garcia (Tejano) and is based on a narrative by Fede lvarez and Rodo Sayagues, who collaborated on the Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe in 2013. Below is a trailer for the film.
Despite being billed as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's original horror masterpiece, the film has spawned several sequels. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was directed by Hooper and had black humor elements. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III was released in 1990, followed by Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation in 1994.
Since then, other efforts at restarting the series have been made, most notably with 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2017's Leatherface, and 2013's Texas Chainsaw 3D — which was also marketed as a direct successor to the original.
This next sequel looks to be aiming for the same box office success as 2018's Halloween, which brought back original survivor Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and ignored events from the previous sequels.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is scheduled to be released February 18 on Netflix.
